What Industries Dominated Facebook on the First Half of 2016?

Almost all businesses and brands are on Facebook now. The Mid-Year Australian Facebook Performance Report 2016 proves this. The report compared the data of 30 industries, which consists of over 2,600 Australian brands, from January 1 to June 30, to rank the largest and most engaged Facebook pages in the country. It was analysed by the Online Circle Digital Agency data and insights team, and the data were collated by Social Pulse.

Top 30 Industries by Average Engagement

As shown in the bar graph above, the media industry — print (news and magazines), radio, and TV shows respectively — is dominating Facebook in terms of weekly engagement. At the bottom 3 are pets, stationery, and hospitals & clinics.

Top 30 Industries by Fans

According to the figures above, musicians & bands got the highest number of fans, but the industry is only 4th in terms of average engagement. Print media is still part of the top 3, but it’s only 2nd in terms of the number of fans. The bottom 3 are the same as the ones in average engagement.

Top 30 Industries by Fan Growth

In terms of fan growth, the top 3 are exactly the same with those in average engagement. The bottom 3 are also the same, but here, insurance ranked higher than pets.

Since news and magazines got the highest average engagement and fan growth, let’s look at the statistics of the top 20 Facebook pages in this industry.
