Photo of sad dad trying to sell donuts GOES VIRAL, and a sweet Twitter moment is born

After a son shared a photo of his discouraged dad in his empty new doughnut shop, the people of Twitter decided to do something sweet.

Over the weekend, a tweet from Billy’s Donuts read: “My dad is sad cause no one is coming to his new donut shop.” Photos showed a man behind a cash register and a case stocked with doughnuts and other baked treats.

Billy By sent the tweet in hopes his friends might stop by and cheer up his dad, who has been waking up at 2 a.m. every morning to make doughnuts since his shop opened last week in Missouri City, Texas, NBC reports.

More than 320 thousand retweets and over 730 thousand likes later, the tweet cheered up his sad dad much more than he expected.

Sunday, the shop was completely sold out of doughnut and kolach pastries, he tweeted.

Monday, Twitter even picked up customer tabs and the shop sold out again.

The family is overwhelmed with the support.

“I can’t thank everyone enough for coming out and supporting local businesses,” By tweeted. “This means so much to my family.”

In new Twitter photos, his dad is smiling.
