With Google Lens, Google has introduced a new type of image search called “multisearch”. Multisearch allows searchers to search for an image and use a text query about it to refine this image search. And just to be clear, Google says this is done with AI but Google isn’t using MUM for this feature at this time.
You can open the Google Search app on iOS and Android, take a photo with the Google Lens button or upload a photo or screenshot from your photo library and then swipe up to add text.
Google explains open up the Google app on Android or iOS, tap the Lens camera icon and either search one of your screenshots or snap a photo of the world around you, like the stylish wallpaper pattern at your local coffee shop. Then, swipe up and tap the “+ Add to your search” button to add text.

Here are some questions Google multisearch can answer:
- Screenshot a stylish orange dress and add the query “green” to find it in another colour
- Take a photo of your dining set and add the query “coffee table” to find a suitable one
- Take a picture of your rosemary and add the query “care instructions”
It should be noted! However, that this would only work in the US English Google search app, and Google said it would focus on shopping/clothing search.
And yes, this is a feature Google demoed at the Search On event last year.
