Everything You Need to Know About General Dentistry

CHECK UP AND CLEAN
The first thing you need to know about general dentistry is check up and clean. Good oral health can be maintained with your willingness to brush and floss regularly and your commitment to seeing your dentist every six months for an oral exam and professional teeth cleaning.

During a routine check-up, the dentist will look for any abnormalities such as incorrect brushing habits, oral cancer, gum disease, cavities, wobbly teeth. Dentists may take Panoramic X-rays or small X-rays depends on the individual’s needs.

The accumulation of plaque and tartar around the teeth and under the gums can cause dental problems like tooth decay, swelling of gum, bone loss around roots, bad breath, and wobbly tooth.

Scale and Clean will remove tartar build-up around the tooth including under the gum as well as staining from coffee, tea, tar from smoking.

Different type of flouride will be applied to your teeth straight after Scale and clean for extra protection.

RESTORATION (FILLING)
Dental fillings replace parts of a tooth that has been damaged due to injury or decay. A filling preserves the integrity of the tooth and prevents further damage from cavities, furthermore restore the chewing surfaces of teeth that have damaged from decay.

Fillings are a good way to preserve your natural teeth and most cavities and fractures that are caught early are good candidates for restoration with fillings.

Not all dental decay will cause problems such as pain, however, the longer you kept damaged tooth bigger the cavity it will become and possible nerve involvement which may require more complex treatment in order to save your tooth.

At SMILEE Dental, We do not use Amalgam (Metal Filling) to do restorations.

EXTRACTIONS
Extraction is process of removing tooth from you due to various reason, it can be from orthodontic treatment, or having extra tooth to severely infected tooth. Usually it is called Pulling tooth out.
We understand that losing your tooth is heart-breaking and nervous. however, if the tooth is severely broken down, wobbly due to gum disease, or severely infected, we choose to extract the tooth as outcome of the treatment is very poor.

Prior to extraction, the Dentist will take an X-ray in order to plan for extraction, it can be from simple extraction to surgical extraction depends on root shape and amount of remaining tooth structure.

At SMILEE Dental, we thrive to deliver pain-free extraction. Dentist will go through instruction with patients after extraction to avoid any postoperative complications.

After having a tooth removed it can lead to issues relating to your ability to chew, your jaw joint, and shifting teeth, which may have a major impact on your dental health. To avoid these complications our dentists will discuss alternatives to extractions, as well as replacement options for the extracted tooth.

DENTURES
Denture is often called Plates. Dentures are designed to replace missing teeth and restore function with a natural-looking and long lasting solution. They offer an effective alternative to patients that are not suitable for dental implants, crowns and bridges. Usually Patient have to wait 6-8 weeks before proceed with denture or alternatively fabricate denture first and replace the missing gap straight after extraction (immediate denture).

There are different types of dentures available and design of the denture will be differnet patient to patient. Partial denture replace few teeth and full denture will replace whole arch.

Even with dentures, regular dental check ups are still necessary to have your dentures examined and professionally cleaned. We make sure your dentures fit properly to prevent any complications.
