Social media is a blessing and a curse, a blessing because thanks to Instagram we can connect with the rest of the world through the lens of beautiful photography, and a curse because of course we covet everything we see in our feed.
But luckily for our bank accounts, we haven’t, until now, been able to immediately buy every perfectly edited outfit we see on the app. That’s all about to change.
Instagram announced their new direct shopping tool will be available from today for all Australian Instagram users. The feature launched in the US last year and was an immediate hit with users, turning the app from a place to discover new brands to the ultimate online shopping mall.
Global head of business for Instagram Jim Squires said in a statement, “People come to Instagram every day to discover and buy products from their favourite business. We want that to be a seamless experience. Whether it’s a local artisan, florist or clothing store, shopping directly on Instagram has never been easier.”
Australia is the first market in the Asia Pacific region to go live with the new feature and the app has partnered with three well-known Australian labels—Country Road, Myer and online shopping destination PepperMayo—to trial the feature.
Businesses wanting to implement the new direct shopping tool are required to have a business profile on the site and either a shop on Facebook or a product catalogue to enable the feature.
For users, when you come across your next pair of must-have kitten heels, denim dress, boiler suit or off-the-shoulder shirt, if the business is set up with the shopping feature you can just click to buy directly from the post, changing the online shopping game forever.
