Allow your child to realize that petting is not allowed at all times; they must allow the dog to rest and enjoy being alone for a while.

Don’t disturb a pet who is eating or sleeping. They require rest from time to time.
Don’t tease or hurt a pet. Asking children to discipline the dog would almost certainly result in disciplinary actions such as physical punishment. This will only instill fear in the pets, driving them away from their children. If your pets are acting out, always interfere.
