Turkish Coffee
To get your day going, chances are you need coffee. Turkish coffee is brewed in a coffee pot made out of copper, called a cezve (jez-VEY). You don’t filter this kind of coffee. Instead, you ground the bean so finely that it resembles flour and becomes part of the drink. You can use any kind of coffee bean, but arabica is considered the best. Brew your coffee with the amount of sugar or cream you want, or leave it unsweetened. You could also add an egg or a sausage (laced with pepper). Your coffee will go great with some Turkish honey and a Turkish pastry, like baklava.
Turkish Sausages and Eggs
Turkish sausage is basically a spicy beef sausage called Sucuk. Made with ground beef, or sometimes lamb, with salt, black pepper, cayenne pepper, garlic, cumin, sumac, and other common Turkish spices. It’s cured for several weeks, where the salt and other spices ferment with the ground meat.
Sucuk is usually sliced and cook over eggs. Add your favourite cheese and savour it with Turkish coffee, and your day is set.
Adana Kebab
Kebabs are delicious on their own but even better as a breakfast. One way to make your Adana kebab especially unique is to add pickled apricots. Cook on a traditional spit to make it really crispy in their puffy, translucent sheets.
Borek
Borek is a Turkish pastry that is easy to whip up and makes a great first meal. With crisp exterior, it is usually topped with yoghurt and eggs. You can even add or mix it up with your favourite condiments, like spinach and feta, or smoked salmon.
