TikTok Seller: New App for Sellers to Manage Online Stores from Your Smartphones

TikTok has released a new app for its seller community that makes use of its TikTok Shopping features. However, the app is only available in Indonesia at the moment. The new app, called TikTok Seller, allows TikTok’s seller community to manage all parts of their TikTok shop from their mobile device, including registering as a seller, maintaining inventory and orders, and analyzing their online business, among other things.

According to the app store listing, the app also allows sellers to register their campaigns and run their promotions, engage in customer service and access seller education resources.

Indonesia as a test market for TikTok

The app was made available on Android last month but on iOS devices as of 3 December. The app is ranked No. 42 in Google Play’s Top Shopping category and No. 5 in its Top New Shopping category, according to statistics from Sensor Tower. According to the app’s listing page on iOS, the app is ranked No. 52 in Shopping on the Indonesian App Store. According to the company, the Android version of TikTok Seller has gotten around 17,000 installs in Indonesia so far and preliminary estimates reveal that the iOS version has only gotten below 1,000 installs.

TikTok stated that the app is launching in Indonesia, where the company is testing a growing range of commercial solutions as part of its TikTok Shopping pilot programs.

A spokesperson from TikTok said that the company is always searching for new ways to improve their community’s experience and routinely test new features that inspire creativity, offer joy and innovate the TikTok experience. Brands on TikTok have discovered a creative outlet to authentically interact with audiences. TikTok reportedly continues to experiment with new commerce opportunities that enable the community to find and participate in what they love.

For some time, Indonesia has served as a test market for many of TikTok’s investments in its e-commerce business, thanks to the country’s rapid smartphone use and demand for online services tailored to its mobile-first population. According to Statista data, roughly 64% of the country’s population used their mobile phones to access the internet in 2020. And that number is predicted to rise to 81% by 2026.

For instance, TikTok released a “Seller University” website aimed at its Indonesian audience in early 2021. The website details how businesses can market their products on videos and help sellers to get started on the app. According to the company, the site was one of many tests of the company’s e-commerce solutions in Indonesia at the time. TikTok unveiled its TikTok Shopping features later in 2021, allowing merchants to add a “Shopping” button to their TikTok profiles and sync product catalogues to establish mini-storefronts on the app. Shopify was a debut partner on this initiative in select markets, including the United States, but TikTok later expanded its list of partners to include Square, Ecwid and PrestaShop, among others.

Today, sellers can use TikTok videos to promote their products and direct users to product pages on their websites. Brands and sellers are allowed to share dynamic links while streaming a live broadcast using the updated LIVE shopping features. Sellers also have access to a few online shopping ad formats that allow them to target users with customised videos, generate leads and give swipeable product catalogues.

There’s no news on if or when TikTok’s new dedicated Seller app will be accessible in other markets.
