Sports Massage and Why It Is Necessary

Share :

Regular spa treatments are necessary to rejuvenate this off-season and ultimately improve triathlon performance. Yes: Spa treatment. Of course, for many, going to the spa to relax is far from what you experience. Those tense muscles have been screaming for a massage for a long time.

What is a Sports Massage?

Sports massage is usually a combination of several massage techniques tailored to the affected muscle groups based on your activity. A properly performed sports massage can help flush lactic acid from your body. There are two types of sports massages that triathletes can benefit from, depending on the booking schedule and the race schedule.

If you have a race coming up you will want to receive a lighter massage. But, if you are in between events and have specific issues, your sessions can focus on deep-tissue massages in problem areas.

So, what exactly is a sports massage and what will it do for a triathlete?

Athletic Performance

Continuous improvement is the reason for training in the middle of winter, launching bikes to hills, trucking, and training in the rain. Well, that’s the same reason you should rely on a good sports massage. After a massage, you will feel lighter, stronger, more flexible, and can deal with all of that persistent pain, helping to reduce the chance of injury.

Sports Massage and Why It Is Necessary

Injury Prevention

One of the best reasons to get a sports massage is to help your muscles, tendons, and joints move in the right range of motion and stay in optimal shape. It’s like a pre-workout warm-up you have to do. Before training, I want to make my muscles supple and warm my joints.

Many injuries result from the abuse of certain muscles. This can cause pain, pain, and irritation. Regularly scheduled sports massages help reduce the chances of overuse of muscles in the first place and also help reduce the initial inflammation that leads to injury.

It can also help reduce the chance of injury recurrence. Massage is most effective at treating soft-tissue injuries such as strains, sprains, and stress injuries.

Pain Reduction

Massage is known to reduce pain during recovery from injuries and parts of skeletal muscle. Massage promotes proper healing of scar tissue and has the effect of soothing the injured area.

Relaxation and Focus

Sports massage helps reduce stress and improve concentration. This will give you a good state of mind ahead of the next race. The lively movement of the massage can also cheer you up.

Post-Race Recovery

Massage helps speed up the healing and recovery process after intense races by dissolving lactic acid and other effluents.

How often should you get a sports massage?

On average, triathletes should receive a massage once a week, or at least once a month. This may seem extreme, however, massage can be very helpful in preventing injuries.

When should I get a sports massage?

Responses to massage vary from person to person. Therefore, if you can afford to try a massage at different times of your workout, decide which one is best for you. However, the majority of people will prefer the time after the race / after long hours of training. Both are beneficial, but pre-race massage stimulates the muscles and post-race massage is like a cool-down / recovery massage.
